About Parapheonix
Parapheonix is a free, browser-based suite of video and audio tools built for creators, editors, and anyone who works with media files. Every tool runs in your browser — no installs, no plugins, no watermarks.
What we build
The core of Parapheonix is a full non-linear video editor that runs entirely in the browser. Alongside it, we offer a set of standalone tools for common one-shot tasks: trimming, compressing, cropping, converting, extracting audio, and normalising loudness.
All tools are powered by server-side FFmpeg processing, which means you get professional-quality output without needing to install any software. Uploaded files are automatically deleted from our servers within one hour — we never store, analyse, or share your content.
Why we built it
Most online video tools are cluttered, slow, or add watermarks unless you pay. Desktop editors require installation and high-end hardware. We built Parapheonix to sit in between — a capable, privacy-respecting toolset that works on any device, runs in a browser tab, and is genuinely free to use.
The idea started from a simple frustration: needing to trim a ten-second clip or convert a file to MP4 shouldn't require downloading a multi-gigabyte application, creating an account with a company that wants your credit card up front, or accepting a watermark stamped across the middle of your export. Those one-off tasks are common enough that they deserved a tool built specifically for them — fast to open, free to use, and gone from our servers within the hour.
How the editor and tools work
The video editor is a genuine multi-track non-linear editor running in JavaScript in your browser — timeline scrubbing, overlays, text, and color grading all happen client-side before anything is uploaded. When you're ready to export, your timeline description is sent to our servers, where FFmpeg does the actual encoding work. This split matters: editing feels instant because it never leaves your browser, while rendering gets the speed and format support of a dedicated media server instead of whatever your laptop's CPU can manage.
The standalone tools — trim, compress, crop, convert, extract, and normalize — work the same way in reverse: your file uploads once, a single FFmpeg operation runs server-side, and the result comes back as a download link. No client-side transcoding, no browser tab pinned at 100% CPU for ten minutes.
Who runs it
Parapheonix is an independently run project based in Ireland. It is designed, built, and maintained by a small team committed to keeping the core tools free and private. We don't run on venture funding with a growth target to hit, which means there's no pressure to introduce paywalls, sell usage data, or add features nobody asked for just to justify a valuation.
How we keep improving
The AI tools section covers text-to-speech, image generation and editing, and transcription — all running on GPU hardware we host ourselves rather than reselling access to a third-party API. On the editor and tools side, we add one-shot tools based on what people actually ask for through the contact form.
